Extra Clothes

If you haven't already done so, I am recommending you send in an extra set of clothes for your son/daughter. Students tend to get their clothing wet from now until the spring, especially pants and socks. Even if you just send in an extra pair of socks to keep in their cubby bin, I'm sure it would come in handy.

Thanks so much!

Enjoy your Halloween! Hope they have fun.

Raz Kids

Raz-Kids is now up and running. Your child can access books at their reading level. Just click on the 'Raz-Kids Link' tab on the left. Then, click on the 'Raz-Kids' link on that page. This will bring you to the login page. They need to click on their name and then click on the 2 pictures for their password. Passwords will be glued into their agenda's on Tuesday.

Please monitor how they're doing on the level that I have assigned to them. Levels are based on where they were at the end of grade 1. I am in the middle of assessing all students reading levels, so as I get this new information, your child's level may move up or down depending on those results.

Please click on the 'weekly homework' tab on the left. I would like students to try logging into their Raz-Kids accounts and complete one book this week (see the homework tab for details). It is recommended that they try completing one book per week. Once they have completed all books at a level, they can move up to the next level on Raz-Kids.

If you want to see how their Raz-Kids level relates to grade level/age, click on the tab that says 'Reading Correlation Chart'.

Hope you've had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend! :)

1. I'm going to quiz them on their spelling words on Monday instead of this Friday. My printer broke, so I was unable to glue the words into their agenda like last week. I should have them in for Thursday. In the coming weeks, I will have them write the word wall words in their agenda.

2. Wear red and white this Friday (September 28th) to help support our kick off day for 'Jump Rope for heart.

3. Wear an orange shirt on Monday (October 1st) to help recognize the impact residential schools have had on our indigenous population. They will learn more about this soon.

3. Scholastic Orders (for October) are due: Thursday, October 4th. I did write the 5th on the forms originally, but there is no school on the 5th.

Updates

1. I have added a new tab on the left, "Weekly Spelling". There you will find the words of the week. The words will also be on the monthly calendars that start in October. For the next 2 weeks, before the October calendar, I will be pasting the words in their agenda. For the weeks after that, students will be writing the words in their agenda. If you have trouble reading their printing, you can refer to the calendar or the tab for spelling I have created.

2. If you have ordered scholastic, the books usually come within a week of the time I place the order. The order will be placed this weekend.

3. Labels in their Agenda:
- I have posted their student logins and passwords in their agenda on Friday. There are a few students whose I will do on Monday.
- The Raz-Kids label (login/password) should be in there agenda within the next week.
- Dreambox (math) will no longer be used (board wide decision). We will be using a program called "Zorbits" for math. I will need a couple of weeks to learn more about this program and then I will post how students can access this.

4. Students should be trying to do a little reading each school night. Once they have their Raz-Kids passwords, I encourage you to have them read those books online since they will be at/close to their reading level. It is helpful to discuss the book with your child before, during, and after reading.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to a new school year! I hope you all received my letter that was sent home today. I also included a sheet for you to fill out so I can learn more about your child. It was a pleasure meeting your child today and meeting the parents that were able to be there prior to school starting today. If you weren't able to be there this morning, I hope to meet you at our Open House this Thursday evening from 5-7 pm.

If you have any questions, concerns, or things you would like me to be aware of you can write a note in their agenda/on paper, or call the school. I will get back to you as soon as possible.

I look forward to working with you and your child this school year.

Miss. Bontes
